All secondary schools were upgraded to wireless. In addition, Hoover City Schools upgraded to Office 2007, Exchange 2007, and are converting district web pages to SharePoint and using Wikispaces for teacher pages. We are in the process to converting all employees to Unified Messaging so that employees will be able to receive VM through e-mail. It will also allow them to check e-mail via phone. In addition, the Technology Room at Central Office was outfillted with the same equipment and a wireless lab as well. That room is used for meetings, demonstrations, and training. To prepare the teachers we provided two weeks of training during the 2007 summer. Teachers could choose which week they wished to attend. I am attaching the schedule for the Summer Conference and some information that we had posted on our website. To follow up with teachers, and to really start the year off with a technology emphasis, Alan November was our keynote speaker this year at Institute. He provided a very motivating message to our employees and reinforced our technology vision. Following the formal presentation, he met with our board members, superintendent, all instructional technology specialists, and the Hoover Foundation Members. (The Hoover City Schools Foundation is an organization formed in 1992 to provide individuals and businesses an opportunity to support Hoover City Schools.) Notes from Alan November's speech and presentations may be found at November Learning. 3 Skills Students Need to Succeed Who Owns the Websites Your Kids Access |
